Trevor Hutson advocates for private property rights representing property owners in eminent domain settings and also has experience assisting landowners and developers in the real estate development process including land use and comprehensive planning, concurrency, zoning matters, and development agreements. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hutson was a part of one of the largest locally owned private development companies in Northeast Florida. His legal experience in property rights issues, together with his time in practical real estate development, provide a unique perspective in eminent domain cases featuring land use/zoning, development and highest and best use issues. Likewise, his experience in eminent domain, including successful litigation of inverse condemnation cases against government entities, lends credibility to his real estate development practice.
Brigham Property Rights Law Firm represents property and business owners only, never the condemning authority. As a member of the firm Mr. Hutson has helped achieve excellent results for his clients both state and federal courts against local and state governments, as well as private utility companies in both state and federal courts. He is as proud of his work for smaller owners as he is of his contributions to larger matters including multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. His insight was instrumental in obtaining recent settlements in excess of $9,000,000 and $20,000,000, the latter being one of the largest recent acquisitions by the Florida Department of Transportation.
Mr. Hutson is a Florida affiliate member of Owners’ Counsel of America, a nationwide network of eminent domain attorneys dedicated to defending property owners. He is currently a Vice Chair of the Florida Bar’s Eminent Domain committee and is also active in his local community, serving on the advisory board of the local YMCA.
He is a graduate of Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida (B.S., Management). He received his Juris Doctorate from the Florida Coastal School of Law (J.D.). Mr. Hutson was admitted into the Florida Bar in 2013 and is also admitted to practice before the Middle, Northern and Southern Districts of the United States District Court in Florida, as well as the Eleventh Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals.
